Keya D’Sa

I have spent years working as an Animator but currently work for a charity – responsible for its communications and marketing. In my spare time, I have always painted or sketched.  Ceramics is something I have discovered more recently, and I immediately fell in love with it.

I find myself constantly thinking of how to make objects in clay. The thrown clay vessel then becomes the perfect ‘canvas’ to decorate using a variety of materials; coloured slips, stains or handmade glazes.  I enjoy throwing into the mix techniques like Sgraffito, Water-etching or Raku firing.

I love the process of creating; either wheel-thrown or hand built.  Each piece is handmade and unique, and time and thought has gone into the making of it.  The decorating process is probably the bit I enjoy most, and I love experimenting with techniques.  The slow process of pottery allows me the time to think and react to the material at various stages.  I am hugely inspired by local nature and habitat.
